14 Delicious Pre-Prom Dinner Spots

Fredericksburg dining includes an amazing variety of food, guaranteed to satisfy all tastes, so the Talon has compiled a list of 14 great options for pre-prom dinner.

  1. Brock’s Riverside Grilllocated on the Rappahannock river, Brock’s is a great place for pre-prom dinner. It has a river-view dining room as well as two outdoor seating areas. The atmosphere is enhanced by live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. The menu consists of reasonably-priced burgers, pastas, and salads, as well as fancier options like filet mignon. Brock’s takes reservations, but only for the indoor dining room. Outdoor seating is first come, first served.
  2. Sedona TaphouseAlthough one of the pricier downtown restaurants, the sophisticated atmosphere and menu at Sedona Taphouse definitely make up for the cost. Sedona offers a variety of entrees, but their famous for their steaks. Gluten free, heart healthy, and vegetarian options are widely available, and Sedona prides itself on striving to use local and organic ingredients. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, as are reservations, which are usually necessary for a large group as this is a popular restaurant. 
  3. Castiglia’sA fairly well-known downtown destination, Castiglia’s Italian restaurant is a great prom dinner option. There is a variety of Italian and American menu options, including brick-oven pizza, pastas, seafood, and subs. Reservations can be made for the main dining area, banquet room, or new skytop terrace, which has its own menu and atmosphere.

  4. BravoBravo is another great Italian option, located in Spotsylvania Towne Centre. Like Castiglia’s, Bravo’s menu includes pizza, pasta, steak, seafood, and sandwiches. Private seating, semi-private seating, and reservations are available for groups over 6. If you want to avoid the traffic or crowds and eat at someone’s house instead, Bravo even offers online ordering and pick-up!
  5. FirebirdsAlso located in Spotsy Towne Centre, Firebirds is a delicious dinner option. Famous for their steaks and seafood, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill is modestly priced and fairly sophisticated. Be sure to check out the seasonal favorite menu items, rotated based on the time of year. Reservations and online ordering are available!

Capital Ale HouseLocated in a 200-year old historical building in downtown Fredericksburg, Capital Ale House offers a variety of American and European dinner options in an upscale-dining atmosphere. The menu contains classic options like burgers, tacos, soups and pastas, as well as a few unique items like Jägerschnitzel and a pulled pork barbecue mac and cheese. 


  1. Olive GardenA classic Italian option, Olive Garden offers many styles of dining based on your preference. You can dine-in at the location in Fredericksburg, order online, or for a larger group, get Olive Garden catering (which is fairly inexpensive) and choose between pick-up and delivery. Check out the limited-time only specials on their website beforehand for special promotions.
  2. MianMian noodle house is a new downtown restaurant, and a great casual-dining option for prom. The menu consists of a variety of Asian dishes, paid for at the counter, including rice bowls, Japanese curry, and noodle salads. Owned by Jonathan Chen, also owner of UMI Japanese Dining, all of the menu options at Mian are healthy, and nothing is deep fried. There are no reservations available, but they are not really necessary due to the quick and casual atmosphere. Mian doesn’t have a website yet, but you can check out Yelp reviews for more info.
  3. Fahrenheit 132This upscale steakhouse, although pricey, is a great dinner spot for prom. Their menu consists of, you guessed it, steaks, but also offers items that are changed as often as daily, as Fahrenheit 132 has committed to used fresh and locally-sourced ingredients.   4. The Melting PotThe Melting Pot offers a unique dinner experience with its variety of fondue options. The menu includes a three-course, four-course, or build you own option for entrees, as well as appetizer and dessert fondues. There are several events going on now, including Now Melting: The World’s Best Cheese, the Spring Platter, and the Date Night Romance Package. This is a great option for big groups and there’s a large party room available for groups of 12 or more. 
  5. Bonefish Grill One of the best seafood restaurants, Bonefill Grill is delicious, moderately priced, and classy. The menu is mostly seafood options, but there are a few burgers or chicken entrees to choose from. Check out the website for reservation options, daily specials and prices.
  6. Primavera Pizza and Grillmore casual than Bravo or Castiglia, this downtown pizzeria provides a wide variety of Italian options at a relatively low price. There are specialty pizzas, pastas, calzones, subs, salads and more to choose from. Primavera has a relaxed atmosphere, and is still suitable for larger groups. Reservations may need to be made, as the restaurant can fill up easily.
  7. J. Brian’s TaproomJ Brian’s Tap Room is a locally owned restaurant and bar in downtown Fredericksburg. The menu has a huge selection of different types of food, from burgers and barbecue, to salmon, and even pizza. There is an indoor dining room, as well as an outdoor patio.

  8. OtaniOtani is a Japanese Hibachi style restaurant, where every meal comes with an experience. The table top food preparation by trained chefs is fascinating as well as delicious. Hibachi is a great option for large groups, but because of the nature of the restaurant, there are a few specific requirements for reservations, which can be found on their website.
