Chrissy Strickler is a senior at Colonial Forge High School and has been playing Field Hockey throughout her entire life. She has worked hard her high school career, earning her spot on varsity three of her four years.
This past summer, Chrissy announced her commitment to Roanoke College.
“Freshman year I decided I wanted to play in college. It’s always been a big goal of mine,” Chrissy (‘25) said.
Her goal wasn’t always Roanoke College, as she had to change her look towards college due to some teams not being interested or not having the right fit for her.
“There were definitely some instances where I had heard back from coaches that weren’t interested or didn’t have the major I wanted, so I had to shift focus a couple times,” Strickler explained.
Committing is not all about how good the team is or if they have consistent success, but more of how the campus feels and the right fit.
“I fell in love with the friendly team environment. The campus was nice and they had the major I wanted to study, so everything fell in line” Strickler explained.
Not only is Chrissy a competitive player on the field, but also a supportive teammate off.
“Playing beside her just gives me a big sigh of relief, because I know that she’s there for me and she’ll pick me up when I’m down” Roxanne Stone (‘25) said.
Having a teammate you can count on is crucial when it comes to success, because they are there for you even at your worst times. Chrissy expects this year’s team to do well as the team is younger and more up and coming than last years.
“I think our team this year is definitely newer, because we lost a lot more seniors than we have in past years. We all have a really good connection this year though, so I think that we are gonna have a better season this year than we did last year,” Strickler said.
