After countless hours of dedication and relentless practice, standout Dylan McCarthy (‘25) has officially committed to play Division I baseball for William & Mary. This decision marks a significant milestone in McCarthy’s athletic career, as he takes the next step in his journey from a promising high school athlete to a collegiate competitor.
Dylan has been a force on the diamond. With a powerful swing and a keen eye for the game, he has consistently delivered standout performances, leading his team to multiple victories. His skills on the field have drawn attention from college scouts across the region, but it was William & Mary that captured his heart.
“The whole process was really intense. I visited several schools, but something about William & Mary just felt right,” Dylan said.
He credits the coaching staff’s commitment to developing players and the school’s academic reputation as major factors in his decision. Dylan visited the campus and was struck by its vibrant community and the opportunity to balance academics with athletics.
“I went to the campus and noticed that everyone seemed to be friends. They were all really friendly with each other. The staff did a great job introducing us to the campus and helping us feel welcomed,” Dylan said.
As Dylan prepares for this new chapter, he is also aware of the challenges that await him at the collegiate level.
“I know it’s going to be tougher, but I’m ready for it,” Dylan said.
He plans to major in business, aiming to balance his academic aspirations with his baseball career.
Dylan’s commitment serves as an inspiration to young athletes in the community. With this, he reflects on any advice he has for the upcoming players.
“Do everything you’re supposed to do. Don’t skip days. Keep working out hard, practice a lot, eat good. Maintain your academics to get into the schools that you want. And think of where you want to go without baseball, just in case something happens,” Dylan said.
As he sets his sights on playing at the collegiate level, one thing is clear: Dylan McCarthy is just getting started, and the best is yet to come.
