Halloween is coming up and this is need-to-know information for the general public. If you’re familiar, there are these plastic pumpkin buckets kids will carry—the original trick-or-treating bag instead of the supplementary pillowcase or plastic bag.
While those pumpkins are historically orange, some people opt for different color plastic pumpkins, and for good reason.
Green or Teal Pumpkins
These are for kids with allergies, usually peanut allergies, so you can avoid giving them candy with nuts or peanut oil. Pretzels, fruit snacks, or gummies are decent alternatives.
Here’s a fun list of different candies and all the allergy warnings simply formatted.
Blue or Dark Blue
These pumpkins are for children with autism. If you’re one of those houses that like to jump out from behind bushes, look out for these blue buckets.
Flashing lights, loud noises, and fog machines can trigger children with autism, so it may be best to avoid these kinds of decorations. Here’s a website that can give insight into the matter.
Purple
Purple signifies children with epilepsy. If you don’t know what epilepsy is, it’s a brain condition that causes recurring seizures, which are usually caused by flashing lights. So again be on the lookout for these buckets and have a plan in place.
Kudos to the person who came up with this concept- I don’t think any person wants to be responsible for harming a child in any way and this is a good way of avoiding it.
