“[Theatre] is the closest thing humanity has to magic,” said actress Rachel Sumaray (‘14). Rachel is mostly involved with Forge Drama and has been committed to acting since her freshman year.
“I’d always wanted to be involved in theatre, but there was no drama department in my middle school,” Rachel said.
Rachel has been in a few shows here such as Lockdown and the upcoming One Acts as well as a few communities theatre pieces. Rachel has also had a lot of backstage experience. She has worked as a stage manager, publicist, and make-up manager.
“Basically, I try to be involved in any way I can be,” Rachel said.
Rachel’s favorite show to date is 70 Scenes of Halloween.
“It was the most powerful piece I have ever been a part of,” Rachel said.
Rachel feels that acting allows the audience to feel something extraordinary.
“Movies allow you a peek into this alternate world, but theatre lets you step inside another universe and experience the story from the inside-out,” Rachel said.
For Rachel, being an actress means, “taking a few words on paper and having the opportunity to make them come alive.”
