From November 12th to November 15th the National Honor Society (NHS) had a food drive in front of the office. The NHS was hoping to get between 20-50 cans per day during the drive. They offered prizes to people to donated, like tickets to the fall play and tickets to a regular season home game. NHS also offered a bigger prize to the top class that donated cans. The prize would be to vote on a teacher that has to wear a turkey costume during school!
Mrs. Kreft, the sponsor of NHS, helped come up with the idea of the food drive, with help from the members of NHS.
Members of NHS that volunteered to help run the canned food drive before school were hoping to get as many cans as they could. However, NHS only ended up collecting around 20 cans per day which was two times less than they had been hoping for.
“We were hoping to get a lot because it was the last day of the drive, but somewhere around like 20-50 cans,” Addie Hollar (26) said.
In reality the students received a lot less than they hoped.
“We don’t know [who won] yet. I think it was the seniors or freshmen,” Addie Hollar said. But some of the students who volunteered want Mrs. Rogers to get voted to wear the costume. “I’m not too sure who got the most votes for the costume, but I’m hoping it’s Mrs. Roger,” Mason Connell (25) said.
All the cans that were donated are going to a shelter and to people who cannot afford food for Thanksgiving.
“It’s for the people who don’t have food for Thanksgiving,” Addie Hollar said.
“The cans are going to the shelter,” Mason Connell (25’) said.
