School and Artificial Intelligence (AI) don’t seem to mix well, no matter what class you’re in.. AI’s use in school has taken a villainous role, as teachers are forced to take exclusive measures to ensure it isn’t being utilized. However, AI can be used as a tool rather than the crutch that has instituted this ban. Here’s how:
If you are in an art class of some kind, AI can be used to generate ideas as prompts rather than just generating a picture or a story. Ask AI for an original prompt, then build upon that prompt. Say AI gives you something simple and effective, all you have to do is just envision that suggestion and add onto it, whether it be the specific style, or things down to detail.
You can also use it to help with research, as AI has this magical power of scouring the internet in under just a couple seconds. Enter in a question and look up the answer that AI brings up to further your research. For example, say you ask ChatGPT for something specific for a history class, then take that answer and search it into a search engine. This not only makes it easier, but also allows you to see many different opinions on the subject.
Many use AI as an easy way to solve complex math problems, this means that while yes you get the homework done faster, it also means that you aren’t able to retain the information when you eventually have a test in the subject. Instead of using it to skip the middleman, use it to better understand the solution by asking the AI to give you a detailed example. Then use this example as a visual guide to the problem that’s on the math homework.
You can use AI to explain complex topics in science to assist in studying. Instead of asking it to answer questions on things like, “Explain Lewis Structures simply”, AI will then come up with a simple explanation that you can understand.
Artificial Intelligence doesn’t have to be a woeful concern for teachers if it’s used to help. Otherwise schools will begin gearing up to stop the use of any technology that isn’t run by the teachers. However, AI can be wrong as it searches the internet for buzz words and can sometimes insert false answers, so remain cautious while using AI.
